polors
a sculpture made of steel rods in the shape of a wolf’s head, covered in various transparent materials. The steel frame and pale transparent material can be seen with the naked eye. The wolf, which stands for an independent life and self-acceptance, is awakened to an aesthetically colorful life by looking through a polarization filter.
This project deals with polarized light and transparent plastic, based on the physical principle that has fascinated me since physics lessons in school: the colorful patterns that occur on certain plastics in combination with polarized light. It is a sculpture where with your naked eye you can see the framework of a wolf’s head and pale transparent material stretched around the frame. If you look at the sculpture through a polarization filter, however, aesthetic, alternating color gradients come to light. The added value through interaction is created by potential 180° movement around the sculpture, whereby different colors and shapes can be seen in depth.
The wolf head was created out of recent market research and brainstorming about my visual branding as an artist and will be part of my logo. The two different sides of the head represent the duality in each person - the angel and devil on the shoulder. The wolf stands for a self-determined life. The name “POLORS” consists of the words “Polarisation” and “Colors” and is also the given name of the wolf for this project. For the visitors, polarization foils in shape of a magnifying glass (without actually magnifying) are provided for viewing the sculpture. It may also be possible to use 3D glasses, such as those used in cinemas.
